Team Top Soil 2077

Medium: Embroidery

Date: June 2021

Exhibited in April 2022 as part of New York University’s annual Earth Day student art exhibition.

This piece is titled "Team Top Soil 2077 Jacket" and it is hand embroidered with felt on thrifted denim. I created the design to draw attention to our rapid depletion of top soil, which is necessary for growing food and all other plant life. This piece is about the waste of a precious natural resource, as our industrial farming practices continually wash away or turn to dust the soil that is necessary for sustaining life. The year 2077 represents the approximate year when scientists have predicted we will run out of top soil entirely unless drastic measures are taken.
